Canberra, and the people in it
Our Canberra advisers work with people across Canberra, Queanbeyan and the surrounding region, including Belconnen, Woden, Tuggeranong, Gungahlin, Molonglo, Queanbeyan, Yass and Bungendore.
Canberra has a workforce unlike anywhere else in the country. The Commonwealth public service, Defence, and a large university and research sector, with a high proportion of long careers in a single employer.
That produces one dominant question. Public sector superannuation schemes, particularly the older defined benefit arrangements, do not work like ordinary accumulation funds, and the decisions around them are frequently irreversible. When to access, which option to take, how it interacts with a pension and with a partner’s arrangements. Getting that modelled properly before you commit is the single most valuable thing most Canberra households can do.

Five stages,
not five hundred pages.
The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. From there it’s a documented process, and you see the reasoning at every step rather than a recommendation landing on your desk.

At the heart of advice is the desire to make people’s lives better. Compassion, support, empowerment. It is rarely ever just about money.

Questions people ask us in Canberra
Do you only work with people in the Canberra CBD?
No. Our Canberra office works with clients right across the Australian Capital Territory, and a good number who live further afield again. Some come in, some meet by video, and most do a mix of the two.
Which areas do you cover from the Canberra office?
Canberra and the surrounding area, including Belconnen, Woden, Tuggeranong, Gungahlin, Molonglo, Queanbeyan, Yass and Bungendore. If you are further out, we can meet by video or arrange to come to you.
Can I meet by phone or video instead of coming in?
Yes, and plenty of our Canberra clients do. The advice is the same either way. Most people mix the two: an initial meeting in person, then reviews by video.
What does financial advice cost?
Fees depend on how complex your situation is and what you need. We quote in writing before you engage, so you decide with the number in front of you rather than after the fact. The first conversation is free and carries no obligation.
Do I have enough money to need an adviser?
Advice tends to matter most at moments of change rather than at a particular balance. Retiring, selling a business or a property, an inheritance, a redundancy, a separation. If you are facing a decision you cannot easily undo, that is usually the point, whatever the number.
Can you help with Age Pension and Centrelink?
Yes. Working out entitlements, how assets and income are assessed, and how a decision about super or an investment affects what you receive is a routine part of retirement advice.
Are your Canberra advisers qualified?
Yes. All of our advisers meet the education, training and ethical standards required to give personal financial advice in Australia and appear on ASIC's Financial Advisers Register. Individual qualifications are listed on each adviser's profile.
What is a best interests duty?
It is a legal obligation to act in your best interests when giving personal advice, and to put your interests ahead of ours wherever the two could conflict. It is the reason a recommendation has to be documented with the reasoning behind it rather than simply asserted.
Do you also do home loans?
Yes, through our Canberra lending team. Advice and lending sit in the same group, so if you are weighing up a mortgage alongside a retirement or investment decision, both conversations can happen together.
Canberra advice, from people who live here.
Thirty minutes. In our office, at your kitchen table, or by video. No fee, no obligation. You will leave knowing more than when you started, even if you never come back.
