Geelong, and the people in it

Our Geelong advisers work with people across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast, including Newtown, Highton, Belmont, Grovedale, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Torquay, Drysdale, Portarlington and Colac.

Geelong spent a generation as a manufacturing city and is no longer one. Ford and Alcoa closed, and health, education, insurance and construction took their place. A lot of people in this region carry the financial residue of that shift: a redundancy taken at fifty-five, a super balance built under one set of assumptions and drawn down under another.

At the same time the coast has filled up. Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads and Torquay have absorbed thousands of households who sold in Melbourne and bought here, often earlier than they planned. Retiring five years ahead of schedule is a good problem, but it is still a problem, and it needs different numbers.

What we help with

Almost nobody arrives needing all five. Most people start with one and find the others matter more than they expected.

Retirement
planning

When you can stop, whether the number is enough, and how to turn it into an income that lasts.

Superannuation

Contribution strategy, consolidation, insurance inside super, and making sure the structure still suits your stage of life.

Investment
advice

Portfolio construction inside the advice relationship, built around your goals and your tolerance for risk.

Personal
insurance

Life, income protection, total and permanent disability and trauma cover, sized to what your family would actually need.

Aged
care

A parent's move into care, the family home, means-tested fees and the timing of it all.

Estate
planning

Wills, powers of attorney, beneficiary nominations and what happens to super, which does not pass through your will by default.

Five stages,
not five hundred pages.

The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. From there it’s a documented process, and you see the reasoning at every step rather than a recommendation landing on your desk.

Evaluation

Where you are now, what prompted the call, and an honest answer on whether we're the right fit. Sometimes the answer is that you don't need us yet.

Questions to ask your Financial Advisor in Geelong

Do I have to go to Geelong for good financial advice?

No. Our Geelong advisers are part of a national group, so you get the research, technical support and investment resources of a firm with 32 offices, delivered by someone who lives locally and will still be here in ten years. There is no advantage to a Melbourne postcode.

Which areas do you cover from the Geelong office?

Geelong and the surrounding area, including Newtown, Highton, Belmont, Grovedale, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Torquay, Drysdale, Portarlington and Colac. If you are further out, we can meet by video or arrange to come to you.

Can I meet by phone or video instead of coming in?

Yes, and plenty of our Geelong clients do. The advice is the same either way. Most people mix the two: an initial meeting in person, then reviews by video.

What does financial advice cost?

Fees depend on how complex your situation is and what you need. We quote in writing before you engage, so you decide with the number in front of you rather than after the fact. The first conversation is free and carries no obligation.

Do I have enough money to need an adviser?

Advice tends to matter most at moments of change rather than at a particular balance. Retiring, selling a business or a property, an inheritance, a redundancy, a separation. If you are facing a decision you cannot easily undo, that is usually the point, whatever the number.

Can you help with Age Pension and Centrelink?

Yes. Working out entitlements, how assets and income are assessed, and how a decision about super or an investment affects what you receive is a routine part of retirement advice.

Are your Geelong advisers qualified?

Yes. All of our advisers meet the education, training and ethical standards required to give personal financial advice in Australia and appear on ASIC's Financial Advisers Register. Individual qualifications are listed on each adviser's profile.

What is a best interests duty?

It is a legal obligation to act in your best interests when giving personal advice, and to put your interests ahead of ours wherever the two could conflict. It is the reason a recommendation has to be documented with the reasoning behind it rather than simply asserted.

Do you also do home loans?

Yes, through our Geelong lending team. Advice and lending sit in the same group, so if you are weighing up a mortgage alongside a retirement or investment decision, both conversations can happen together.

Geelong advice, from people who live here.

Thirty minutes. In our office, at your kitchen table, or by video. No fee, no obligation. You will leave knowing more than when you started, even if you never come back.
